Transmit is an FTP program designed by a company specializing in Mac software. An FTP (or, File Transfer Protocol) program is used to upload and download files between a local computer and a web server. As you can imagine, a reliable FTP program is a must have for a web design company, but it is also useful for our tech-savvy clients who have file uploading tasks.

So what is so great about Transmit?

1. It’s fast. Transfer speeds are limited by your connection, but bulky software can add the the transfer time. Transmit touts a new and improved Twin Turbo engine for faster transfers.

2. It’s easy to use. Like, really easy. The interface is similar to FTP programs that you may be familiar with, but keeping track of saved sites is easier with the ability to group them and edit them easily.

3. File Syncing. This feature allows you to sync a folder on your local machine with that on your web server without worrying about overwriting newer files.

4. Mount as Disk. With the new Transmit Disk feature, you can now mount any of your favorites in the Finder itself, even if Transmit’s not running. This is awesome if you are working remotely and have a fileserver at work.
